What is a podcast?

Since the creation of podcasts in 2004, their popularity has continued to explode. Now with over 485 million consumers, the convenience to listeners of consuming content they are interested in at a time of their choosing while going about their daily lives means they have become a natural part of everyday behavior. Podcasts now cover every topic imaginable, but the demand remains so high that if you've ever wanted to start your own podcast, it is not too late!

Where to start?

Whether your podcast idea is for work or as a hobby it can be daunting figuring how to start. Fortunately, we have good news for you - we've partnered with HubSpot to create the ultimate go-to guide on how to make your podcast. This e-book walks you through every step of the way, from ideating topics, what equipment you need, through to editing and promotion.

Below we have a teaser about what you'll find:

What do you need to start a podcast?

The basic podcast tools are a microphone, a laptop and a great idea. Select a topic that interests you but also has a clear message that allows for episodic content. Knowing your audience will also define how your podcast content evolves over time.

When it comes to hardware equipment needed for a podcast, a microphone will, most likely, be the first investment for any newcomer. But there's no need to break the bank. There are many affordable models, perfect for beginners. Tip: do not rely on your computer's built-in mic as the audio quality will be poor and muffled.

With software, there are numerous applications that will help you start a podcast. From tools to help in uploading your content to applications that'll create jingles and sound effects.

As your podcast evolves, so will the equipment needed. Then you can look into foot pedals, mixing boards, advanced software like Logic Pro and transcription services.

Other considerations

Treat your podcast like you would your written content. Select one or two keywords for your titles to aid in your SEO (search engine optimization) on SERP (search engine results page) rankings.

Organic social media posts are the first port of call when starting on your podcast journey. This allows you to grow a community and start conversations about the topics covered as well as build anticipation for the next podcast episode. With the podcast market as large as it is, this is your perfect chance to tap into an audience that otherwise may not have access to your content.

The Trint HubSpot e-book on how to start your own podcast is now live and contains even more in-depth tips as well as advice from industry professionals. We will also be sharing plenty of content on how you can utilize podcasts for your business and how to market your podcast on social media.
