The Story Object Model (SOM) conversations continue with our partners Octopus Newsroom and LiveU in our next live webinar. We’re hosting a discussion about the practical application of SOM in newsrooms and how seamless integrations are the future.
As one of the technology partners helping shape the Story Object Model, we see the same problem in almost every newsroom: context gets lost as stories move between tools from different vendors. SOM fixes this by turning the story itself into a shared record that every connected system can read from and add to. When one tool publishes a change, everything working on that story hears about it at once. Because it’s an open, vendor-neutral standard, newsrooms keep the systems they already run and integrate once to connect to many.
For breaking news, that means live feeds, transcripts, approved quotes, corrections and rights flags reach every part of the workflow instantly, with no re-entering information and no errors left behind. AI agents can suggest drafts and clips within your editorial and legal guidelines, but a person approves everything before it goes out, keeping journalists firmly in control.
Here’s one of the use cases demoed at IBC 2026, imagining how SOM could help with the coverage of a live news event like the UK Prime Minister resigning. See how Octopus, LiveU and Trint, amongst others, complete the Story Bus.

Here’s who you’ll be hearing from on Thursday November 19:

We’re all on the bus together, that’s how.
The SOM bus is the name for the channel every tool plugs into. When something happens in the story, a tool like Octopus can publish it to the bus and get the rundown. Every other tool attached to that story – LiveU, Trint – then hears about it and can act without hassle. LiveU covers the live stream and Trint sources the key moment. This way, the three platforms work together on the SOM bus to get the live story verified and published quicker.
